The memorial to the missing for over 7,000 men who died in the Battle of Cambrai in November-December 1917. It is beautifully maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. If you visit with a coach group park in the adjacent road as the camber of the parking at the main entrance is difficult for large vehicles.
Peaceful
Wanted to see the area where my great uncle died in the First World War and his name recorded on the monument. Also visited various museums and monuments in the Somme. Interesting visit to the tank museum at Flesquieres, too. Memorable visits in this centenary year.
Art and architecture at its finest. This monument stopped me in tracks and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for your sacrifice, matched only by your bravery.
Quiet place to reflect and remember those we lost
Moving memorial to the more than 7,000 British and South African missing from the Battle of Cambrai in November and December 1917. The memorial is situated in the upper level of Louverval Military Cemetery on the Bapaume to Cambrai road. One of the Queen Mother's cousins Lt. Gavin Patrick Bowes-Lyon of the Grenadier Guards is commemorated here.
Truly humbling experience.
