On my Dads last week of life he was tied to a bed, denied mental health treatment and the day he died the medical team was befuddled. How can that be? Today when they called and asked me “if they should just throw his possessions away since the funeral home didn’t pick them up” I decided to tell the Google about his treatment. How do you start a phone call with such a cruel request? If I could describe his stay in 1 word I would choose the word Traumatic. Please avoid this facility at all costs.

You shouldnt do that

My complaint is with the Hines dental clinic. Every time I call they transfer me to the wrong number and when I get them to request a consult for community care they say they did it but it never gets done. Im going to have to pay for my own dentistry even as a 100 percent disabled veteran because the Hines dental clinic is so incompetent.

I have been going to Hines for about 14 years. I've run the gambit, from annual visits with my primary care doctor to consults with specialty doctors, tests, scans and surgeries. The medical people, meaning doctors, nurses and medical techs, are great, much better than in the private system I used to go to for care. However, then there are the non-medical staff. Dealing with clerks to make an appointment, get information and stuff like that is often a negative experience. They seem to be interested only in knowing what day they get paid. Forget the veterans; they might then be required to do some actual work. That's not to say that they are all from that mold. There are some who genuinely want to help and be of service. But the bad apples in the non-medical group are much more numerous than in the medical providers group.

I recently returned to the VA Hospital, but it was for my 1st Outpatient procedure. I received Outstanding CARE and more!! David from vascular was in constant contact scheduling and doing his best to set everything up during COVID. On the day of the procedure, I was taken care of by this AMAZING team. I really felt like the only patient in surgical. I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Dixon, Pinky, RN Tommy, the entire vascular team that made the procedure possible, Dr. Salt, and my Recovery was nothing short of professional and incredible bedside manner with RN Santiago. I am extremely grateful for the staff that made sure I was comfortable during every step. Thank you so very much:)
