The memorial is such a wonderful sight to see. I certainly recommend stopping and checking it out while in the area. It does cost a little bit to get in, but I think it is well worth it. The cost to get in includes touring the museum and touring all the grounds. You cannot drive up to the memorial, but you can get rather close. You can, however walk up a paved path to the memorial.

Goosebumps. Just being at the place where powered flight actually happened. So cool. Very nice memorial area and informative plaques to describe the details of this remarkable time. Small but nice museum. Roads in good shape. Entrance might be a bit high for what it is. Another odd thing: They have reserved parking for \low emission vehicles\ but no charging stations. It kinda defeats the purpose.

If you visit the welcome center first, it will give context to the outdoor exhibits, which show the hanger and landing markers of the first engineered flight on December 17 1903. The Monument not only teaches the process of using biomimicry to accomplish human flight, but tells the relatable story of the two brothers and the important role that their family and the Kitty Hawk locals played in this accomplishment which has forever changed the world. I was intrigued to learn that their mother was mechanically inclined and helped instill in them a mind for problem solving and a curiosity for how things work.

It's hard to imagine a time before flight but they do a great job of taking you back in time here. Considering you can show up at an airport and be almost anywhere in a few hours, this is the spot where man first took to the air. A testament to determination, grit and intelligence as Orville and Wilbur figured out how to make it happen. Great visitors center and Monuments. Plan to spend 2-3 hours.

I liked it a lot. Of course, I remember the history lessons but they didn't go into the detail that you'll learn at the memorial. And nothing can replace seeing the location to appreciate what the Wright Brothers really accomplished.
