Without a doubt the biggest waste of time and money I've ever experienced. Paid over 350 for a class that had essentially no teacher? Class time was spent 1. Listening to the teacher talk about herself and how great she was for 30 minutes straight. 2. Attempting to throw a cylinder with the only instruction being the teacher doing a 5-second demo that no beginner could possibly learn from. 3. Watching said teacher help only 3 very advanced students and wander off to god knows where. I eventually got so frustrated that I stopped coming after week 6. I genuinely thought it would be fun to learn a new craft, but now I never want to see a wheel again. Oh, also- the teacher cancelled a class and then decided to make up for it by adding 15 minutes to the beginning and end of each class. She never even came to the first 15 minutes (surprise), and the last 15 minutes is essentially extra clean up time. Please, whatever you do, if you decide to come to La Mano for class, do NOT take the Thursday night class and be sure to make the most of your studio time. That's the only time you're likely to learn anything. The front desk staff is extremely friendly, and they will help you during studio time if you're struggling.

Took a 8 week class. The class itself was ok, but did not feel welcome during open studio hours. No/limited staff help during open hours. — Specific experience: There was an open hour change that I wasn't aware of, but front desk let me in anyways. One hour later, an incredibly brusque staff member told me to pack up immediately. I had no problem leaving, but she straight up approached me like I was trespassing in a half empty studio when I already cleared it with other staff that it was cool for me to work in the back. I didn’t go back after this experience and just chalked up my last classes as a lesson learned. — MUCH better studios elsewhere!

Quite an extraordinary place! It goes via a middle path; neither the \mother-gaia-crunchy-granola\ nor the \just-have-fun-and-drink-and-who-cares-if-we-get-better\ school. The folks who work there are genuinely talented potters, and the teachers are patient and flexible. For an entirely reasonable sum (370 for 8 weeks in Spring 2017), one receives 16 hours of instruction, all materials — including glaze, firings, etc., and UNLIMITED open studio time. A happy spot indeed.

Catering to beginner pottery enthusiasts, La Mano Pottery is a big, light-filled studio in the Flatiron District. Two types of clay are available for use, and both the clay and glazes are included in the class fee. Tools, aprons, towels, everything you need is provided. Just show up and get ready for some dirty fun!

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fun wheel and handbuilding classes where you get to make and keep your creations. Classes are over the course of 8 weekly sessions of 2 hours each and there's open hours weekday and weekend mornings and afternoons for practice, which are highly recommended if you want to improve. They also have one-off classes, which I haven't tried.
