In hopes of improving my damaged hearing, with a minimally-invasive procedure, Dr. Harold Kim sold me on a Bone-Anchored Hearing Device surgery at St. Vincent's in Portland, with an 11 a.m. arrival time and a 1 p.m. procedure. Dr. Kim assured me and my wife that it would be "twilight sleep" and that I would be provided with an unobtrusive oxygen mask for the "fifteen-minute" procedure. When I was called by the anesthesiologist, he told me a totally different story. He said the procedure was scheduled for 3 p.m. and I would be heavily anesthetized, with a breathing tube down my throat. For further clarification, I made calls to both the Wilson Ear Clinic and St. Vincent’s, which went unanswered, until I placed yet another call to cancel the surgery. All this was done the day before the scheduled procedure. When I finally got a call back, Wilson Ear Clinic could not accurately confirm either the time of the surgery, the anesthesiologist or the amount of time I would be required to fast prior to the procedure, despite my reported extreme hypo-glycemic reaction during previous afternoon surgeries. I had no idea when to arrive and if I would be waiting for two or four hours in pre-op. Enough. I cancelled.

Regrettably I have seen Dr. Howard Kim 3 times. He is the most argumentative ignorant doctor I have ever witnessed. each visit was worst than the last. I wish I could mark half a star. I have been seeing various doctors a couple times a week for the past month or so to try and figure out a problem I am having. The first time i visited Dr. Kim he gave me a diagnosis without even hearing my full story or taking the time to listen. The second time I visited him was after I had an MRI taken. The purpose of the visit was to look at the MRI and shed some light on the subject, but he didn't even get the MRI from the imaging office! Why the heck did I even come in?! He just told me to take prescription pills with horrible side effects for the condition that I may or may not have. The third time I went in was by request from Dr. Kim. He basically scolded me for not taking his word on his diagnosis. however he could not explain to me his reasoning behind it an any way. I DO NOT recommend going to this doctor! I would rather stab myself in the eye with a fork than deal with Dr. Kims inability to care for his patients one more time.

I've been seeing Dr. Harold Kim for the past year for a cholesteatoma. I had my first cholesteatoma surgery in August 2012, when he discovered that the cholesteatoma had eaten into my skull bone and resulted in my brain beginning to leak out. So in December 2012 I had to have another ear surgery (the cholesteatoma had returned) in addition to brain surgery. I will have my third surgery in July 2013, which I'm hoping will be my last. I am a complicated case, and I've been pleased with Dr. Kim's skill and bedside manner.
