The atmosphere was pleasant but nothing special. The service was great and the staff was very attentive to the customers. With the current covid-19 protocol the staff take your name and number to support potential future contact tracing. As for the food quality, I think it was good but not the best I have ever had. The Garlic Nan portion was small but very good. I enjoyed the spice ness of everything. As for drinks, all beer served is via a bottle. They have a decent selection but bottle prices are on average6-8 per serving. I may be back but would not be my first choice for my next visit to Portsmouth NH.
This is a very good Indian food restaurant. We went there a couple of times while visiting maine. This restaurant has good food, welcoming staff and cleanliness.

Absolutely the BEST Indian food in the NH Seacoast and Southern Maine areas. The Singh family is dedicated to their loyal customers above and beyond just a restaurant experience. Their customers are family; they truly care about each and every person they serve. I have learned so much about Northern Indian cuisine from my wonderful friends at Shalimar. Every entree, side dish, ingredient, and all the amazing spices are explained so that you are eager to try new culinary treasures, and develop your very own favorites. Plan on spending time when you dine at Shalimar; it is a wonderfully relaxing experience with delicious lunch and dinner choices. Shalimar also has amazing desserts! I hope you will love Shalimar as much as I do!
