The Royal Albert Bridge is a Grade I listed railway bridge that spans the River Tamar in England between Plymouth, Devon & Saltash, Cornwall. The bridge was designed by fabled engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and it would prove to be one of his final completed engineering projects during his lifetime. The completed bridge being opened by Prince Albert on 02-May-1859 and Brunel died later that year on 15-Sep-1859. Brunel's unique design consists of two 455 foot lenticular iron trusses, 100 feet above the water, with conventional plate-girder approach spans that gave the bridge a total length of 2,187.5 feet. NB: over a Century later in Apr-1962, Brunel's bridge was joined by a near-neighbour when the newly constructed suspension Tamar Bridge (Toll) was opened to carry the A38 trunk road, with traffic measured at circa 16m vehicles a year by 2020.
