Great place for those interested in birds (especially waders and waterfowl) and wildlife in general. Not much to do for the kids in terms of playareas, as in some of the bigger RSPB reserves, but they do have a couple of hides and screens for you to see the wildlife from. Probably best to take a pair of binoculars with you. You can walk round the two large marshes, but the tracks are usually muddy and grassy, so I wouldn't advise the use of a pushchair/wheelchair. No cafe on site and toilets in the form of a portaloo. Car park is a bit further down the road than the main hide, and there is a crossing, as the road can get quite busy.

Not many birds to see on the regular visits we have made, for a place by the sea to walk our dogs. Fresh air and nice light with views of Blackpool and Southport. The sea is often along way out with the sands exposed for walking. Wellington Boots are recommended. The first mile of so is dry on an improved path. Not too busy most of the time. Depends what you want but there are better places for bird watchers. Not many risks for children but the mud can be sticky.
Cracking place to see the sunset. Carpark closes at 4pm
Beautiful, peaceful and scenic place to take a gentle stroll on a lovely sunny day.
Great place to visit to bird watch.
