The Castle Dome Mine Museum is actually a little \town\ you can walk through and see great artifacts from back in the days when the Mine was active and several thousand people lived out there. You do have to drive a few miles, well, maybe seven miles, on a gravel road, but it was very well maintained. We splurged and took the Mine Tour to see the florescent walls underground. It was very interesting and the extra building you get to tour were packed with stuff you don't usually get to see close up. Our tour guide was three owner, Alan, who has been out there since 1993. He is passionate about restoring and sharing Castle Dome Mine with everyone. I would allow at least two hours to wander through the town/museum. You will see detailed items in each building that you really don't see usually. We were so impressed. Oh, one thing to know is that you can call and reserve your tour spot in advance, too, so you don't get out there and miss it. If you leave a message they will call back.

First off, if your not prepared or willing to drive down a dirt/gravel road at 10-15 mph for 10 miles, don't go here. I went in a 22' RV and it took an hour. Just keep driving East on Castle Dome Mine Road from off 95, till you hit the dead end. Great old mining town with lots of artifacts. Leisurely walk through the town, every building has something different inside. Lots of written explanations of who, what, and when on buildings and items (self guided tour). The gal working the admission and gift shop was very helpful. Looking in the gift shop I asked her if they had any florescent rock up here. Yes, they do, ask to see! Call to check times of mine tour.
This was really cool. There's a TON to look at. It's fun to read about each building and some of the history behind it. We didn't do the mine tour, just the town tour. There's so much to see! There are public (to those with admission?) restrooms, a little rustic but quite functional. The road out there is unpaved for quite a bit (i saw another post that said 7mi). My phone freaked out along the dirt road, resulting in pictures of if order (it switched timezones or something). It righted itself sometime during our visit and didn't repeat the problem on the way out. The woman who greeted us was quite nice. She explained for employee day, masks needed to be with in the reception building/giftstore part.
Very neat place. Walking tour is 15 cash 16 card. Lots of area along the way for free camping. Road is extreme rough 5 mph with the 29’ class c
OMG If you haven't been and you like history this is the place to be. Plan to spend several hours at least, if you want to see everything! Very well done. Lots of exhibits to see !
